Honestly, when I first tasted it here in Montreal three years ago, it didn’t seem all that special. But imagine this, one day, you find your self craving it, realizing it’s been a while since your last bite, you seek it out and gradually, the time between those cravings shortens. And then it hits you that you’re not just eating a bagel, you’re consuming a piece of culture, a slice of this city’s soul. It’s in the way people line up, patiently waiting for something that feels so familiar, but never gets old. It’s how bagels here can be a meal at any time of day. It’s the traveler, passing through, disappointed because the bagel they’re tasting deasn’t quite match what they know. Because it’s not just about the taste, it’s about feeling that culture in every bite. To savour the bagel is to savour the city, and without that, it’s no longer a Montreal bagel.
